About Me
Being British...I don't do talking about myself very well.
I find it all, a bit, 'show off-ey'. Is that even a word?! Which is ironic really when you think about it. Being a marketer and all. However, I realise that, if you're going to employ me as a strategy consultant, ask me to speak at your event or buy one of my training courses, then you want to know who you're dealing with. Right? So, with the embarrassment rising inside of me, here's a potted history of my glorious career... |
Start Here After a spell in the military, I studied politics and psychology at The University of Liverpool. From there I went onto Warwick Business School to study Organisation Studies. I am currently studying an MSc in Organisational and Business Psychology. I came into marketing in mid-1996. This was at the height of the dot com boom when I helped design, launch, promote and manage a number of digital startups including - still my favourite all time project - jobs.ac.uk |
I gained my marketing qualifications via distance learning (good old Open University). With perfect timing, I launched my own marketing agency in the summer of 1999 - just before the dot com crash!
Since 1999 I've had the pleasure (mostly) of working with a huge variety of organisations - B2B, B2C, large and small, public and private sector. Here's a snapshot of the type of organisations I have worked with in one capacity or another:

My Life As A Trainer Begins
Marketing changes so quickly these days. I find this exciting and is one of the reasons why I've stayed in the industry so long. But it's a struggle to keep up-to-date . Which is why I attend training courses. In 2009 I was sitting in a course and thought to myself, "I know as much as the guy at the front! In fact, I think I know MORE than him!" Rather arrogant I know. Nevertheless, from that point on, I launched myself into the world of training. Since making that rash decision, I have trained literally thousands of people in subjects as diverse as:

Training Goes All Digital
A good deal of the training I deliver is still face-to-face. There's something about working with a group of your peers that you can't beat.
However, I now spend an increasing amount of time delivering online webinars for organisations such as Smart Insights and elearning training for programmes such as the Advanced Digital Leaders (ADBL) certificate the prestigious Google's Squared Online course.

Thought Leadership Material
Part of what I do is creating thought leadership material and content for partner organisations. This material includes:
The majority of this material is, of course, related to Marketing and Digital Strategy. But I also produce material on broader productivity and business-related topics. What More Is There To Know?
I'm a Midlander by birth, although I have lived and worked all over the UK.
I'm married, with a teenager daughter and one cockapoo named 'Ollie'.
I'm a big fan of stand-up comedy and all things funny. I love a good read and am as happy reading a business-related book (sad I know) as I am the latest science fiction sensation.
In my free-time I enjoy entertaining with friends, trying - and failing - to keep fit at the gym and trying - and succeeding - in learning to fly.
Don't ask me about my musical choices. They're awful, very 1980's and annoy my daughter enormously ;-)
